Dr. Barry Eppley, MD, DMD  
        
 

Dr. Eppley is one of Indiana’s most extensively trained physicians and a unique plastic surgeons. Dr. Eppley was born and raised around Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He initially received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (D.M.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and eventually a Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) from Washington University in St. Louis. He completed full training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis as well as full training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with a fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery at Indiana University. As a result, Dr. Eppley is both a licensed physician and dentist and certified by the American Boards of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

   Dr. Eppley is a former faculty member of University Plastic Surgeons, where he attained the distinction of Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He spent over 15 years involved in the Craniofacial and Cleft Program at the Riley Hospital for Children, one of North America’s largest children’s hospitals and most active centers for the surgical treatment of facial birth defects.

   Dr, Eppley has also spent much of his professional career in the investigation and development of numerous technologic advances in plastic surgery. He has directed dozens of research projects and idea developments. As a result, he has been awarded nine U.S. and international patents on biomedical technologies.

   His research and clinical efforts have resulted in extensive contributions to the surgical literature including over 225 journal articles and 35 book chapters. He has also co-authored two textbooks on the management of facial reconstruction entitled ‘Maxillofacial Trauma and Esthetic Facial Reconstruction’ and ‘Essentials of Maxillofacial Surgery’.

   He is a nationally and internationally sought after speaker on numerous plastic surgery topics. He has given over 200 presentations in 21 countries over the past 17 years.
